Mauritius is no different to any other tourist destination in the world, it
may look exotic with the turquoise ocean and perfect blue skies but the country
is indeed seasonal. There are peak times and off-peak times to visit and because
of this advance planning to visit, especially when looking to rent an apartment
for your vacation is highly recommended because you may just be left with what
is left and very little choice.
High season in Mauritius is December to January and Mauritius is very, very popular with tourists from all over the world. The popularity is because the weather is at its best and the ocean temperature is hovering around a balmy 30 degrees centigrade. This is the time for North Europeans to escape their cold and wet winters.
The popularity of Mauritius as a “self catering” destination has grown in recent years, and during peak season the demand for property is extremely high with some properties being booked at least 6 months in advance. The advice as many will say and repeat often is to book early.
There are only really a few things that you need to consider when choosing and eventually booking your Mauritian self-catering home from home.
Firstly, who is going on holiday?
There is a vast array of properties to rent in Mauritius ranging from single studio apartments through to huge villas or even small groups of “cottages” together. Who you are, who your party is will ultimately decide the type of property you need and the location.
Mauritius has become a tremendously popular family vacation destination and popular with either extended families or family and friend groups. For this reason there are numerous properties that have been created to cater specifically for this market. Likewise there are upmarket small properties and even budget friendly properties for young groups.
No matter what property you choose, take note of who you are travelling with and this will make the stay in Mauritius a happy and memorable one.
Secondly consider the amenities you require, this in part is also determined by who you are. Do you need a place with a private pool and the space to entertain or do you just need a balcony with a space to sit and chill with a glass of wine or have alfresco breakfast?
What sort of holiday are you planning? Will it be a holiday where you lounge on the beach all day? If so closeness to the beach may be important. Will you want to have lots of water activities? If so then you may want to be located in a resort where this is provided.
Do you need all the comforts of home? TV for watching sport? A superb kitchen to cook meals? This may be important if you intend to pretty much get to your apartment or villa and just stay and chill.
But you may want to get out and explore Mauritius a bit, and it is well worth exploring. If this is so make a list of places you want to go and then choose your apartment with location in mind.
Finding you place to stay is relatively easy as long as you consider the who and what and thus keep everyone happy. All you have to do now is decide when to go.
As stated in the opening Mauritius has peak times and off-peak times. School Holiday times are generally very popular and if not booked well in advance the family apartments and villas are taken very fast. To really make the most and have a superb self-catering vacation in Mauritius it is highly recommended to plan and book 9 to 12 months in advance and you are pretty much certain to get what you want, where you want it and at the price you want it.
Then all you need to do is find your flights, pack your bags and arrive!
